The Decatur County Development Corporation is excited to welcome its new Executive Director, Shannon Erb. Erb replaces Ethan Pitt, who has accepted another career opportunity in Kansas City, Missouri. DCDC is a non-profit organization that aims to facilitate economic growth in Decatur County.

Erb is a 2008 and 2011 graduate of the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Graphic Communications, and a Master of Arts in Communication Studies, respectively. She has lived in Decatur County for 3 years, but has always had ties to Decatur County. She currently lives in a family home in Leon that was erected in the mid-1890s.

With a background in marketing at GRM Networks and an advertising agency in Cedar Falls, as well as a background in education working at the University of Northern Iowa, Erb has worked with many types of businesses and organizations. These include educational institutions, private industry, healthcare, non-profits and entrepreneurs. These varied experiences provide a variety of knowledge to help consult with all types of businesses and organizations in Decatur County.

Erb’s passion for community development has been showcased in Decatur County through her participation as the Vice President of the Leon Chamber of Commerce and Leon Development Corporation, and as Co-Executive Chair of the Leon RAGBRAI committee. Erb has lead planning efforts for the Leon Fall Festival, and has volunteered for multiple other community events in the county.

While her time living in Decatur County is just getting started, Erb has the passion and energy to continue current economic development projects in the county, and the motivation to devise creative economic and community development solutions to continue to make Decatur County a great place to live, work, stay and play.

“Since day one of living in Decatur County, I have felt at home. Decatur County has given me so many opportunities to grow over the past three years, and I’m excited to be able to give back to help the county grow,” stated Erb.

Erb’s goals are to continue to support local businesses and entrepreneurs, and to work on recruiting outside businesses to Decatur County. These goals aim to retain the current population and increase the already high standard of living and quality of life for county residents.

The DCDC main office is located in the lower level of the courthouse, on the north side. Erb welcomes any visitors to discuss new ideas, request business and marketing consulting, or just to get to know her!

“I have come to love Decatur County as my home, and I want to make it the best it can be. I want others to love it here as much as I do, and thrive as I have been able to do just in the last three years,” said Erb.

The DCDC office is typically open from 8:00 am to noon, and 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm, but hours may vary based on meetings off-site with community members and businesses. Email Erb at dcdc@grm.net. You can also call the office at 641-446-4991, or Erb’s cell phone at 641-442-6511. Learn more about DCDC at www.decaturcountydevelopment.org.
