The Leon MFA Agri Services is more than just a store where farmers can buy their supplies, it’s a community of farmers.

"We’re an organization built by farmers for farmers for the community," Roth Mallen, manager of Leon MFA Agri Services, said. When you enter MFA, it isn’t out of the ordinary to see many farmers gathered around an old makeshift table covered with newspapers, drinking coffee and conversing with one another. There is a definite feeling of community at MFA.

The MFA company celebrated its 100 year anniversary in March of 2014, but the Leon location has been here since 1981, explained Mallen. MFA had a plant in Lineville and saw the need for service in the Leon area, so they decided to branch out.

MFA provides many products and services to the community, which include spraying/spreading, animal healthy, feed products, crop scouting, grit sampling, health track for beef cattle, any type of seed and a full line of farm supply. In addition to this, MFA provides quality customer service to their customers and offers a hand with loading up a customer’s wares for them.

What many people might not know is that MFA is a customer owned cooperative, meaning that if a farmer has an account with MFA a percentage of the sales goes into the farmers’ dividends.

"We’re here to service them, because we are owned by them and supported by them as customers," Mallen said.

Mallen commented that the reason why he thinks customers continue coming back to MFA is because they have the need for ag supplies and services and that MFA has the supply for their customer’s needs.

"I think it’s appreciation for both sides; it’s the service we provide, the staff, our competitive prices, timeless service we provide and we’re open to new opportunities," Mallen said.

Mallen and MFA acknowledges the importance of buying local and comment on how they utilize Leon’s NAPA Auto Parts store, the lumberyard and Westside Tire frequently.

MFA is located at 18865 U.S. Highway 69 north of Leon with store hours of Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturdays 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and closed on Sundays in the non-demanding season. During the crop input and output season MFA’s hours are extended. For more information call 641-446-4894 or visit their website at www.iowamfa.com.
