The Decatur County Freedom Rock Dedication was held last Sunday, May 24 at 4:00 p.m. The dedication was planned to be outside, but due to inclement weather, the Dedication was held in the SCIT Theatre.
Posting of the Colors was a county joint effort by Cowl-Scott American Legion Post #80, Leon, Grand River American Legion Post #215, Leon Boy Scouts Troop 102, Lamoni Cub Scouts Troop 116 and Leon Cub Scouts Troop 117.
The Central Decatur High School Quartet sang the National Anthem.
Samantha Schaff, Decatur County Veterans Affairs Administrator, welcomed the audience.
The Dedication of the Rock keynote speaker was the Lamoni Mayor, Douglas Foster, who is a Retired Commander, United States Navy.
Members of Boy Scout Troop 102 laid the wreath at the base of the Freedom Rock (of a picture of the Freedom Rock displayed on a screen), followed by a moment of silence.
The final salute was lead by Denny Adkisson, Retired Senior Master Sergeant, United States Air Force.
Refreshments followed the ceremony, which were donated by Lamoni and Leon Casey's, Betty Adkisson of Grand River, Lamoni and Leon Hy-Vee and Hillary Weir of Leon.
The Dedication was well attended, revealed by the amount of community members from all around Decatur County who were packed into the SCIT Theatre.
